Building an Author Brand

In the self-published Kindle marketplace, author image and branding is key to reader recognition and genre signaling.

The client, Aubrey Ash, wanted an author logo to use in place of a standard portrait on a website and social media. The logo would also be used in the Kindle documents as well, so the logo needed to be visually interesting in black and white for ebook readers.

The design loosely follows a core concept from the book series, where tears from the moon goddess fall to the planet below. The logo takes advantage of the symmetry from the initials AA, creating a visually satisfying balance. Including the sword was the final touch, an important visual signal to kindle readers this was a fantasy series.
